Cast Iron Apple Pie Recipe

Apple pie recipe video ricpe cast iron pan

This is such an excellent dessert or with your morning cappuchino on sundays

Ingredients for the dough :
- 250 gram flour
- a pinch of salt
- 125 gram white caster sugar
- 175 gram butter
- 1 egg yolk (use the egg white to brush on before the pie goes in the oven)

Ingredients for the stuffing:
- 75 gram golden raisins
- 5 tablespoons water
- 1 kilo granny smith apples
- 1 tablespoon lemon juice
- 2 tablespoons sugar
- 1 teaspoon cinnamon
- 100 gram crushed hazelnuts

How to Prepare the dough:
- Mix the ingredients and knead them until it turns flaky
- Let it rest in the fridge while you prepare the stuffing

How to :
- re-hydrate the raisins with the water for 10 minutes
- peel the apples and chop them in to ¼ inch cubes
- Mix the ingredients for the stuffing
How to build and bake the pie:
- Place a sheet of baking paper in a cast iron skillet (I am using a 6"skillet)
- Flatten the dough on a piece of baking paper
- Lay the flattened dough in the skillet and cut of the excess dough and baking paper
- Fill the cast iron skillet with the stuffing
- Use the excess dough to cover the pie
- Brush it with the eggwhite and place it in a pre-heated barbecue or oven at 175 degrees Celsius or 345 Fahrenheit.
- Bake the pie for about 45 minutes
- Let it cool down in the skillet and lift it out by the baking paper.
